Romania has satisfactorily implemented 8 of the 13 anti-corruption recommendations of the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO), Digi24 reported, citing a GRECO report published on August 8. GRECO is the anti-corruption body of the Council of Europe.

The five recommendations that have not yet been implemented are related to conflict of interests among MPs and lack of transparency in the legislative process.

The report also highlights the lack of a robust set of restrictions on gifts and favours received by MPs and the need for legislation to regulate lobbying. GRECO also recommends the introduction of an independent system for MPs to be advised on transparency issues.

GRECO gives Romania an ultimatum to implement the remaining five recommendations by June 30, 2025.
