site.btaBulgaria Broadens Scope of Whistleblower Protection

The caretaker Government Wednesday approved revisions to the Act on Protection of Persons Submitting Alerts or Publicly Disclosing Information about Violations to broaden the scope of whistleblowers who will be protected. As a result of the revisions, those with a judicial profession for whom there is an obligation to keep a professional secret, will be protected when submitting alerts about violations of the Bulgarian legislation or acts of the EU that threaten or harm the public interest.
The only exception to this rule will apply to the information that has become known to the lawyers in relation to talks and correspondence with their clients.
The amendments broaden and strengthen the protection of those submitting the alerts and achieve full compliance with all EU law requirements.
