Bulgaria's defence expenditure for 2018 is estimated at 1.43 per
cent of GDP, show data on NATO countries' defence expenditure
in the 2011-2018 period released by the Alliance on Thursday.

The data also show that since 2015, Bulgaria has constantly been
increasing its defence expenditure in leva.    
 
Bulgaria has exceeded by 0.4 per cent NATO's objective of 20 per
cent of defence expenditure to be equipment expenditure.

According to the data, only seven NATO countries have already
achieved the goal of at least 2 per cent of their GDP to be
spent on defence annually. Fourteen Allies have defence
expenditure as a share of GDP lower than that of Bulgaria.
