Sofia, October 13 (BTA) - Kenya's Hosea Tuei won Sofia's 36th Marathon on Sunday, clocking in at 2:15:59.

Morocco's Youssef Sbaai had the same gun time as Tuei but ranked second with a slower chip time. Ethiopia's Alemayehu Lema was third with 2:16:58.

Ethiopia's Hayelom Shegae finished first among the women clocking in at 2:35:36. Kenya's Betty Chepkwony and Hildah Cheboi were second and third.

Tuei and Shegae won 8,000 leva each. Tuei also took a bonus of 20,000 leva after winning all three marathons of the Running as a Way of Life series, including those in Stara Zagora on March 31 and Varna on May 12.

Bulgaria's Lilyana Georgieva (00:41:00) and North Macedonia's Dario Ivanovski (00:32:58) won the 10-km traditional Sofia Marathon.

Bulgaria's Yolo Nikolov is the half-marathon winner with 1:07:40 among the men. North Macedonia's Adriana Pop Arsova (1:23:11) finished first among the women.

More than 5,000 runners from 52 countries entered for the Mass Start, 10 km, Half-Marathon (21.1 km) and the classic distance (42.195 km). More than 550 started in the classic marathon alone. LN/DD
