Bulgaria's highest ranked female tennis player Viktoriya Tomova won Tuesday her first round match at the Korea Open - a WTA 500 tournament in Seoul. Tomova scored a 6-2 1-6 6-0 victory over world No. 82 German Tatjana Maria.
The Bulgarian saved 6 out of 8 break points and managed to get to the next round without having her best serving day - she made 6 double faults without scoring an ace.
In the second stage of the tournament Tomova will meet American Amanda Anisimova. The 23-year-old player has a record ranking of No. 21 and played at the Roland Garros semi-final in 2019 before taking a break from tennis last year in order to prioritize her mental health. In January she was ranked at No. 442 in the world, before climbing back to No. 46.
Anisimova and Tomova have met once on the professional tour - in 2020 the American won their match at the US Open.
