Sanitation and landscaping, security and the work of the City Inspectorate are the areas where the most progress has been made, said Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev on bTV on Tuesday. The topics of citizen participation and decentralisation remain important and for the first time the bourough administrations will be allocated BGN 200, 000 for the implementation of projects. The long-term goal is to allocate more money for the borough administrations to manage, the Mayor said.
Upgrading urban transport, changes in construction requirements and an active landscaping programme are among the team's priorities, Terziev added. He assured that 2,000 new trees will be planted in the capital by the end of the year.
The goal of the climate neutrality agreement is to achieve a large decline in carbon emissions. The municipality will make use at every opportunity to be able to implement any policy in this direction, said the Mayor.
Terziev also commented on Tuesday's Day of Sofia. "We want to establish September 17 as a day without classes for the students but they still have to attend school. He admitted that a communication mistake was made on Monday when the decision was taken late that students in the capital would not have regular classes.
Various observances will be held on Tuesday in the capital to mark the Day of Sofia. The Sofia Municipal Council will convene to award the title of honorary citizen of Sofia to prominent figures. Mayor Vasil Terziev will deliver a speech after a ceremony for raising the flag of the city, which will take place in front of the St. Sophia Basilica.
President Rumen Radev and Vice President Iliana Iotova will participate in the celebrations of the |Day of Sofia in St. Alexander Nevsky Square. During the event, the President will review the troops, after which Bulgaria Patriarch Daniil will officiate at a water blessing ceremony and the Bulgarian national flag will be raised.
Тhe Sofia Municipality Awards for outstanding achievements in the field of culture will be presented at the Sofia City Gallery. The Regional History Museum, the Serdika Ancient Complex, the St. Sophia Basilica, the Western Gate of Serdika, the Tomb of Prince Alexander I, the Exposition for National Reconciliation, the Triangular Tower of Serdika, the Sofia City Art Gallery will be open to visitors without admission fee.
