Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov and US lawyers Dr. Kevin Carroll and Dr. Remy Gerbay Thursday discussed the possibility of anti-corruption training for Bulgarian prosecutors, investigators and financial intelligence services, the prosecution service said. The working meeting took place at Sofia City Court.

Sarafov stressed the need to increase the capacity of Bulgarian institutions in combating cross-border crime in the financial sphere. In this regard, the possibility was discussed for the US experts to train Bulgarian magistrates on the mechanisms for tracing financial assets, anti-corruption, sanctions, anti-money laundering and screening of foreign investments.

Also attending the meeting were Deputy Prosecutor General Elena Karakasheva, Supreme Bar Council head Ivaylo Dermendzhiev Ivaylo Dermendzhiev and Branimir Botev, the Executive Director of the European Institute for Strategies and Analysis.

The two US legal experts took part in Wednesday's international forum on "Cross Border Investments in a Changing World: Sanctions, Screening and Dispute Resolutions," organized by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Sofia.
