Climate changes make it necessary to deepen cooperation on prevention and protection of the population, Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov and Czech Ambassador to Bulgaria Miroslav Toman rallied around the idea at bilateral meeting, the Interior Ministry press office said on Thursday.
Minister Stoyanov expressed his gratitude to his Czech colleagues for the assistance they provided in dealing with the fires that broke out on the territory of Bulgaria and presented Ambassador Toman with a plaque of the Interior Ministry. "Your extremely quick and adequate response helped to contain the worst fire to date. Despite the damage, we coped and prevented any loss of life," the Interior Minister stressed.
Miroslav Toman noted that the cooperation between Bulgarian and Czech firefighters is an example of how the cooperation between institutions at European level should be implemented.
The two officials focused on the initiative for joint patrols along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, while a number of other topics of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting, including the exchange of experience on border protection in the context of Bulgaria's full accession to the Schengen area.
