The National Assembly adopted a resolution on Wednesday requiring the Minister of Health to take necessary actions to address the shortage of nurses in the Bulgarian healthcare system. The resolution was proposed by Lena Borislavova and other MPs of Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria and approved by a unanimous vote of 185 in favour.
The instrument gives the Health Minister two months to propose to the National Assembly a strategy for increasing the number of qualified nurses and midwives by at least 30% until 2030.
The margin of increase put up for discussion in the Health Committee was 50%.
On a proposal by Kostadin Angelov (GERB-UDF), the full Assembly approved a revision to the draft resolution aiming to ensure that the wages of nurses and midwives may not be lower than 90% of the average wage in Bulgaria.
