A Lebanese school in Sofia started the new school year with nearly 500 pupils. It is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its founding and is now in a new building that will house only students from the school, which is named after Lebanese-American writer and poet Gibran Khalil Gibran, the organizers said. 

The opening event was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Lebanon Toufic Jaber, representatives of almost all Arab countries, the Mayor of Sofia's Ilinden district, Ivan Bozhilov.

With the assistance of the Mayor of Ilinden district, the building was renovated and transformed. It also houses a nursery and a kindergarten in addition to pupils from grades 1 through 12. 

The school teaches in Arabic, Bulgarian and English. Special attention will be paid to the smaller classes, with children being taught in a variety of subjects. A special vegetable garden will be built where students will be shown how to grow different vegetables. In the near future, football, volleyball and basketball courts will be built in the schoolyard, tennis tables will be installed, as well as equipment for street fitness.
