In the second quarter of 2024, the employed labour force in the European Union accounted for 75.8% of the EU working age population (persons aged 20-64). This represents an increase of 0.2 percentage points compared to the first quarter, according to the latest data published on Friday by the European statistics agency Eurostat.

Among EU member states, Bulgaria saw the fifth largest increase in the number of people employed in the labour market during the period - by 0.4 percentage points. The employment rate (the share of the working-age population in employment) in Bulgaria in the second quarter of the year was 77%, Eurostat data shows. 

The Netherlands leads in the EU in this indicator (83.7% cent) and Italy is last (66.8%).
