Lina Bo, a Bulgarian artist whose career has taken her to London and New York, will stage an exhibition of paintings at the Arosita Gallery in Sofia between September 19 and October 3, the organizers said on Friday.
The exhibition, called Innocent Games, has been compiled especially to suit the space of Arosita. It shows Lina Bo (born Tsvetelina Boicheva) as an artist who defies established norms and a champion of women's independence and freedom. Her paintings are full of multi-layered symbols and celebrate women who refuse to obey existing stereotypes and assert their identity, the gallery said. Lina uses her own image to present the transformation of women, with their hidden desires and indomitable character.
She presents figure art works in a style close to classical painting but employing contemporary techniques such as digital print art.
Lina studied at the National Academy of Art in Sofia. She specializes in painting and performance art. She has displayed her works in Bulgaria and abroad, including London (UK) and Matera (Italy).
