The fifteenth edition of the International Folk Costume Festival in the village of Zheravna is starting on August 18. The event is organized by the BULGARE foundation and hosted by the BULGARE National Folklore Ensemble. The forum is among the most popular in the Bulgarian folklore festival calendar and is eagerly awaited by thousands of people every year.

According to the festival rules, all visitors must wear a folk costume (authentic, stage or stylized). Early twentieth-century clothing and traditional clothing from other countries are also allowed. Modern accessories such as smartphones, cameras, sunglasses, lighters, among others, are not allowed.

This festival is not only a celebration of the Bulgarian spirit, but it also creates a special mood, brings together like-minded people, creates lasting friendships, awakens the dormant national self-confidence and is a natural bridge between the past and the present. Over the past 15 years, thousands of Bulgarian families have come here with their children to get a feel for that invisible thread that connects modern Bulgarians to their ancestors, the organizers say.

The Zheravna International Folk Costume Festival has been organized since 2008 by Hristo Dimitrov, choreographer and founder of the BULGARE National Folklore Ensemble.
