The EU plans to allocate EUR 40 billion for the recovery of Ukraine over the next three years, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said Tuesday at a meeting in Brussels focused on the economy of the country devastated by Russian military strikes.
According to Kos, the funds will mainly come in the form of private investments and will be used to rebuild destroyed infrastructure in line with European standards. "Now is a good time to invest in Ukraine," Kos said.
The Commissioner recommended that Kyiv ensure predictability and security for investors. The EU supports Ukrainian reforms related to the judiciary, anti-corruption, public procurement, and the tax system, Kos noted.
In her words, the EU’s neighbours can be a threat, but also contribute to security, and Ukraine serves as an example through its role in protecting Europeans. "The best thing we can do is help Kyiv grow its economy and ensure secure energy supplies," she said. Kos added that full integration of Ukraine’s energy grid with that of the EU is expected by 2027.
