site.btaBorissov Unfazed by No-Confidence Motion, Real Issue Lies with Plovdiv Smuggling Rings, CC-DB MP Mirchev Says
GERB leader Boyko Borissov is not worried about the no-confidence motion and is well aware that the bigger issue lies with the smuggling rings in Plovdiv, Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) MP Ivaylo Mirchev told reporters in Parliament’s lobby on Thursday. According to Mirchev, Borissov feels entirely calm about the motion because he knows very well that it will lead to nothing.
Mirchev argued the smuggling rings in Plovdiv involve "two gangland figures from Plovdiv who are connected to [MRF leader Delyan] Peevski and [Hristoforos Amanatidis] Taki". He added that these connections are mentioned in Specialized Criminal Court cases and in Interior Ministry documents.
The CC-DB MP called for no pressure to be exerted on the police officers who attempted to block the smuggling operations, emphasizing that the public interest lies in hearing their version of the story in the National Assembly and "uncovering the whole truth".
Mirchev also said that during the next sitting of the National Assembly’s Committee on Internal Security and Public Order, CC-DB will again demand full disclosure of all information on the Plovdiv case, including reports and materials submitted to the prosecuting magistracy.
CC-DB MP Bozhidar Bozhanov added that through the no-confidence motions, Vazrazhdane, Morality, Unity, Honour (MECh), and [GERB leader] Borissov are just passing the buck among each other. He said the motions are giving Borissov an alibi and arguments, among them the excuse to do nothing in the plenary chamber while blaming everything on the opposition at the same time. Bozhanov believes the ruling parties are concealing information.
