site.btaBulgarian Antarctic Research Ship RSV 421 Sails from Port of Naval School in Tuzla, Istanbul


On Thursday the Bulgarian naval research vessel Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodii (RSV 421) sailed from the port of the naval school in Tuzla, Istanbul, where she was on an official visit. On Friday morning, the ship is expected to dock at Varna Naval Station after a successful third 5-month mission in the Southern Ocean and Antarctica. The official dinner on board the ship given by Captain Radko Muevski and the Chief of the Naval Academy "Nikola Vaptsarov" Admiral Kalin Kalinov for the leadership of the Naval School in Tuzla, was attended by Prof. Christo Pimpirev and Dragomir Mateev from the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute. They had a working meeting with Prof. Burcu Ozsoy, Director of the Turkish Polar Centre, where they laid out the tasks for the long-term cooperation between the two institutions and the participation of a Bulgarian scientist in the Turkish expedition to the Arctic (Svalbard area) in July. Prof. Pimpirev presented Prof. Ozsoy the honorary plaque of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute.
