Moldova's Ministry of Education, Culture and Research is drawing up a decree on the dissolution of the Gregory Tsamblak State University of Taraclia, Moldovan media reported on Thursday. The university will not be closed, it will be transformed into a branch of Bulgaria's Angel Kanchev University of Ruse (on the Daube) - a move which has been discussed since 2019.

Education Minister Dan Perciun commented that Taraclia State University would become part of Ruse University and issue EU diplomas. Moldova will continue to allocate budget-financed places for the university. In addition, Bulgaria will invest EUR 1 million in the renovation of the student halls of residence.

Taraclia State University is a higher education institution established on the initiative of the Bulgarian community in Moldova, training specialists in the fields of primary education, music, social work, history, and Bulgarian, Romanian and English languages and literature, diez.md reported.

A delegation from the University of Ruse is currently conducting its first information campaign in Moldova to present opportunities for free education and grants.
