site.btaBulgaria at the Olympics: Karateka Ivet Goranova Wins Gold Medal in Kumite 55 kg

August 5 (BTA special correspondent Dimiter Velyov) -
Bulgarian karateka Ivet Goranova won the Olympic title in
 of the kumite 55 kg, on Thursday, winning the final by 5-1
points against Anzhelika Terliuga of Ukraine. This has been the
first Olympic gold for Bulgaria in thirteen years, after Rumyana
 Neykova's gold in rowing at the Beijing 2008 Olympics.
   
Goranova, the gold medalist of the 2019 European Games in Minsk,
 Belarus, began her participation in the Tokyo Olympics with a
victory over Taiwan's Tzuyun Wen by 5-2 points. Later, the
21-year-old Bulgarian (a first-time Olympian) won against
Turkey's Serap Ozcelik Arapoglu by 5-1 points, against Iran's
Sara Bahmanyar by 5-2 points and against Austria's Bettina Plank
 by 4-3 points.
   
Goranova's gold medal is the fourth distinction for Bulgaria at
these Olympic Games. The other three Bulgarian medalists so far
are Antoaneta Kostadinova with a silver medal in 10 m pistol,
Taybe Yusein with bronze in women's 62 kg wrestling, and Stoyka
Krasteva who qualified for the women's 51 kg boxing final.
