The Cabinet has adopted a decree amending Decree No. 239 of 2016, which concerns structural changes in the healthcare system, the government information service said here on Wednesday. One of the measures is renaming the National Centre for Training and Certification in Emergency Medical Services (NCTCEMS) to NCTCEMS Professor Milan Milanov.

This change honours Professor Milan Milanov, a pioneer of emergency medicine in Bulgaria. He was a distinguished physician, lecturer, national consultant, and author of textbooks on emergency medicine, with numerous contributions to developing regulations in the field.

Another measure is alignment with the goals of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Steps will be taken to improve citizens' access to medical care and enhance the quality of medical services. The regulations governing the NCTCEMS’s structure and activities will also be revised.

These changes will focus on training medical professionals to work in outpatient clinics in areas with limited healthcare access. The training will be offered not only to those in emergency medical centres and departments but also to professionals in outpatient facilities, specialized medical clinics, and healthcare centres. It will be provided free of charge to those who commit to working in underserved areas.
