A special lesson dedicated to the Unification Day of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia was held in the Bulgarian Sunday School Sts. Cyril and Methodius in Barcelona, after opening the new school year. A special guest at the celebration was Bulgarian Vice President Iliana Iotova, who presented the school with a gilded plaque with the Cyrillic letters and an icon of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of school’s foundation and the start of classes.

The school wrote in a Facebook post: "The beginning of the school year in the Bulgarian Sunday School in Barcelona was especially solemn. It coincided with the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the publication of Petar Beron’s Fish Primer (the first textbook in Bulgarian), and took place right after the Unification Day".

Iotova congratulated the students for their diligence to attend the Bulgarian school during the weekends after a whole week of classes in the Spanish school. “Wherever you choose to build your future, always remember your roots", the Vice President addressed the students.

On the occasion of the school’s 15th anniversary, the school head received diplomas from the Ministry of Education and Science and the Syndicate of Bulgarian Teachers.

The Bulgarian Sunday School in Barcelona, with a branch in Mollet del Vayes, is licensed and included in the Ministry of Education and Science's list of Bulgarian Sunday Schools abroad. It offers full-time education in Bulgarian language and literature, history and civilizations, geography and economics of Bulgaria. The school teaches children from 4 to 6 years old in preparatory groups and students from first to 12th grade. More than 120 pupils study at the school.
