Bulgaria's New Operational
Programme Transport
Gets EC Approval

Brussels, December 19 (BTA correspondent Nickolay Jeliazkov) -
The European Commission has approved Operational Programme
Transport for Bulgaria until 2020, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov
said here Thursday. Speaking to Bulgarian reporters after a
meeting of the European Council, he said he was informed of
Brussels' decision by European Commission President Jean-Claude
Juncker.

The programme will have a total budget of 4 billion leva,
including 800 million leva for roads (the Strouma and Hemus
Motorways and a tunnel under Mt. Shipka). 400 million euro will
go for extending the Sofia underground train service and 1.6
billion leva will be for the Bulgarian State Railways.

"After some ten days of work by this government and close to 4
billion leva are going into the Bulgarian infrastructure - and
that is on a single day. I am happy with all the effort we put
during these past weeks," said the Bulgarian Prime Minister.

He said that funding will only be available to take the Hemus
Motorway to Lovech. PK/LN/
