Grigor Dimitrov Named
Bulgarian Athlete
of the Year


Sofia, December 23 (BTA) - At a ceremony on Monday night, tennis
player Grigor Dimitrov won this year's Athlete of the Year
title in Bulgaria. It is the first time he gets the prestigious
title.

He is in the US and could not attend the ceremony, and was
represented by his parents who thanked the awarding committee
for the honour and for the support for their son. In a video
message for the event, Dimitrov said the title is a result of
huge efforts. "There are many more summits to climb and I hope
other Bulgarians will follow in my steps. Many thanks for all
the Bulgarians flags I see at the tournaments all over the
world," he said.

Runners-up in the Athlete of the Year competition were
weightlifter Ivan Markov and snowboarder Alexandra Zhekova.

The Top Ten also includes Stanimira Petrova (boxing), Kubrat
Pulev (boxing), Tsvetana Pironkova (tennis), Stanilia Stamenova
(rowing), Boyan Petrov (climbing), Miroslav Kirchev (rowing) and
Alexander Kostadinov (climbing).

For the first time in 31 years, the Coach of the Year title went
to a woman, the coach of the national rhythmic gymnastics team
Ina Ananieva. Her team won the Team of the Year title.

Stela Eneva was named Disabled Athlete of the Year. LY/LN/
