PM Borissov: "We Must Trust the Services"

Brussels, October 21 (BTA) - "We must trust the services, they have enough experts, they have a political leadership, who are perfectly well aware of what they are doing," Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said in Brussels on Thursday, quoted by the Government Information Service. He was commenting on the October 15 handover to Turkey of seven Turkish nationals, suspected as Gulenists.

Because of this case, the Bulgarian authorities drew sharp criticism from human rights activists and the National Ombudsman for allegedly violating the Constitution and international law.

"I know we are doing everything possible, even though we don't have a readmission agreement with Turkey, to return people hiding in trucks and leaving the border. Because our refugee camps are overflowing, because wherever we decide to put up even tents, the local people immediately stage protests. Whom shall we please now: those who say that anybody who has crossed over illegally must immediately be sent back, or shall we, too, say: 'everybody are welcome here' and settle them all over Bulgaria!? People who are completely ignorant of these things, very ambitious people who take everything very personally, should stop making insinuations. Certain people find it very easy to pose as great democrats or, worse yet, as great experts. I'm the greatest democrat of all, and I'm making enormous efforts to keep Bulgaria's integrity and people's peace and quiet," the Prime Minister said.
