Almost All Sectors of Bulgarian Agriculture Mark Growth - Minister

Sliven, Central Bulgaria, October 22 (BTA) - There is a growth of almost all agricultural sectors in the country, Agriculture and Food Ministers Dessislava Taneva said in Sliven on Saturday. She unveiled the 12th Traditional Exhibition of Animal Husbandry in the town.

Taneva said there is a record-high yield of wheat, more than two-fold increase of vegetable production and over 50 per cent increase of areas under orchards and vineyards. The animal husbandry sector also witnessed a growth regardless of the price crisis. The sheep for which subsidies are requested have increased by 13 per cent and cattle by 18 per cent. There is an increase in the number of farms as well. Only owners of dairy animals that are not under selection control do not report an increase.

There is a decline only in the tobacco sector, which the Minister does not find to be alarming because it is sectors with marketing prospects that should grow.

Over 500 farm animals are presented in the Sliven exhibition. The visitors can also see the achievements in the fields of cattle, sheep, goat and horse growing. The event is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food and the Executive Agency for Selection and Reproduction.
