Cabinet Approves Signing of EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement

Sofia, October 25 (BTA) - The Council of Ministers Tuesday adopted a decision vis-a-vis approval and signing of the EU-Canada Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), the government's information service said. The cabinet also approved the EU-Canada Strategic Partnership Agreement.

The cabinet authorized Bulgaria's permanent representative in the EU to sign the two documents subject to subsequent ratification and in light of the official commitment assumed by the government of Canada on waiver of the visa requirements for Bulgarian nationals travelling to Canada for tourism or on business not later than the end of 2017.

Belgium's refusal to sign the trade deal between the EU and Canada remains a hurdle to enforcing a visa waiver that Canada has promised for Bulgarians and Romanians.
