President Plevneliev Opens Conference on "Doing Business in Bulgaria: Join the Success of Plovdiv & Explore More Destinations"

Plovdiv, South Central Bulgaria, November 1 (BTA) - Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev Tuesday opened a two-day conference on "Doing Business in Bulgaria: Join the success of Plovdiv & explore more destinations". The head of State took part in the first discussion panel: "The success story of Plovdiv: a gateway for industrial investment, why should you consider investing there and lessons learned for wannabe investors in Bulgaria."

"Plovdiv is experiencing a revival in front of our eyes. The city has taken its destiny in its own hands, it has forgotten the low self-confidence and is boldly looking ahead," Plevneliev said in his greetings address. "From an average statistical city, in just a few yeas it became a European Capital of Culture, an industrial centre with a vibrant economy, open to the world, a city where past and present meet and join hands," the head of State added.

Plovdiv Mayor Ivan Totev said that nine municipalities around Plovdiv, six industrial zones and nine higher educational establishments, which have signed a memorandum of cooperation, work together for the advancement of the region. "Thanks to our efforts, our region is attracting population and is growing demographically," Totev said. "Thanks to our efforts, this is the most preferred destination for industrial production in Bulgaria. We have learnt how to work, how to tackle problems together with the business community and with the educational infrastructure."

Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev and National Assembly Budget Committee Chair Menda Stoyanova are guests of the conference.

According to the organizers (Plovdiv Municipality and Economedia), the purpose of the conference is to demonstrate the opportunities that Bulgaria offers as an investment destination to companies in manufacturing, innovation and IT. At the forum, more than 300 central and local government officials, investors and representatives of financial institutions will consider the advantages of doing business in this country and what has to be done to improve the environment so as to set up more industrial zones attracting enterprises and creating jobs.
