The government will make the quality of life of the people its priority with a focus on education and health care, announced GERB-UDF’s Prime Minister-designate Rosen Zhelyazkov, when presenting the tasks of the future cabinet, its structure and composition. Among the important tasks he listed guaranteeing the rule of law, sustainable finances, a balanced budget, and eurozone accession.
“I will start by expressing my gratitude to the coalition partners with whom we managed in a difficult period to reach an agreement on our political and ideological differences and to come to an agreement,” he said and thanked for the support of the Democracy, Rights and Freedoms (DRF) group.
“The questions start with why this parliamentary majority is being formed - because Bulgaria needs a government that will protect the social rights of the citizens, because the country is in a political crisis, in a crisis of confidence, because the citizens and businesses need support against the serious challenges and risks, because of the need for a convincing constitutional response,” Zhelyazkov said, adding that the main principles that have united the formations in the coalition are the supremacy of the law, effective regulatory and control bodies, strengthening the participation of citizens and the state.
Deputy Floor Leader of GERB-UDF Denitsa Sacheva presented the candidacy of Rosen Zhelyazkov for Prime Minister, describing him as a man with exceptional professional and managerial qualities, open to dialogue, reasonable with a sense of self-irony and self-criticism. “We believe that his candidacy deserves the support of the National Assembly for Prime Minister of Bulgaria,” she stressed.
“Today is an important day for Bulgaria, the election of a government is about to take place, I count on the debate to be constructive,” National Assembly Chair Nataliya Kiselova said at the beginning.
