Workers' Rights Top Agenda of Meeting between GERB Leader Borissov, General Secretary of European Trade Union Confederation Visentini

Sofia, May 2 (BTA) - The rights of workers and the need of government protection of working people were at the top of the agenda of a working meeting between GERB leader and prime minister to be Boyko Borissov, Luca Visentini, General Secretary of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), and President of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) Plamen Dimitrov, GERB said in a press release. Visentini is in Bulgaria to attend a congress of CITUB.

Borissov assured Visentini that the cabinet he will head plans a double increase of teachers' salaries and providing incentives to young experts working in education. Another priority of the new cabinet will be dual education. "The skilled working people are the drivers of the economy and economic growth. By the end of our term in office we plan to increase the average wage to 1,500 leva and the minimum wage to 650 leva," Borissov said.

The three officials taking part in the meeting concurred that remuneration everywhere in Europe should be equalized. The three also discussed the initiative of European Commission President Jean-Claude about a European Pillar of Social Rights, concurring that all EU Member States should join it.
