Sofia, July 12 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry hails the decision of the NATO summit in Brussels to start membership talks with the Republic of Macedonia, the Ministry said in a press release on Thursday.

The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry supports the determination of the government in Skopje to press ahead with the reforms and the strengthening of the good-neighbourly relations.

Bulgaria will continue to render assistance to the Republic of Macedonia in the spirit of the Treaty of Friendship, Good-neighbourliness and Cooperation the two countries signed in 2017. "We see the progress achieved as a success of our active policy for the European and Euro-Atlantic future of the entire region, which was a priority of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU," the press release says.

The invitation to the Republic of Macedonia is a clear confirmation that NATO's Open Door Policy remains effective and contributes to the security and stability in the Euro-Atlantic space, reads the press release.
