Bulgaria Sends Poisoned Businessman
Gebrev's Lab Test Results
to UK
Sofia, February 13 (BTA) - As part of a European Investigation Order, Bulgaria has sent to the United Kingdom all results from lab tests done on Bulgarian businessman Emilian Gebrev so that it can be determined whether he was poisoned with a substance from the Novichok family. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov said he had presented the data from the investigation into Gebrev's poisoning at a meeting of the parliamentary Committee for Control of Security Services, also attended by the heads of Bulgaria's security services.
Dunarit ordnance company owner Emilian Gebrev, his son and the company production director were poisoned in 2015. They all survived the incident. Recently, the investigation was reopened due to suspicions that a substance from the Novichok family had been used against Gebrev. Media reports suggest a link between Gebrev's poisoning, the Skripal case in the UK, and a visit by Russian military intelligence officer Sergei Fedotov to Bulgaria just days before the incident with Gebrev.
Tsatsarov also said that he has presented to the Committee all data on Fedotov. In his words, no connection has yet been found between Fedotov and Gebrev other than a coincidence of the time of events. According to Gebrev, back in 2015 there were no grounds for an attempt at his life, Tsatsarov explained.
According to the Prosecutor General, the motives for the murder attempt should be sought slightly before or at the time of the poisoning. Data will be requested on the arms deals back then, Tsatsarov said.
