Sofia, February 27 (BTA) - In January 2019, the number of the trips of Bulgarian residents abroad was 402,300 or up by 3.8 per cent year-on-year, the National Statistical Institute said on Wednesday. Foreign arrivals totalled 554,300 or up by 1.9 per cent from January 2018.

Year-on-year, an increase was registered in the trips of Bulgarians for all purposes: holiday and recreation by 6.5 per cent, business by 4. 4 per cent, and other purposes by 2. 1 per cent.

An increase was registered in the trips for all purposes for foreign arrivals: business by 2.4 per cent, other purposes (including as guest and passing transit) by 2.3 per cent, and holiday and recreation by 1.3 per cent. Transit passes through the country were 23.7 per cent (131,100) of all visits of foreigners to Bulgaria.

In January 2019 most trips of Bulgarian citizens were made to Greece (84,100), Turkey (75,500), Serbia (35,200), Republic of North Macedonia (26,600), Romania (25,000), Germany (20,200), Spain (16,600), Austria (15,500), France (14,100), the United Kingdom (13,400).

The share of visits by ЕU citizens was 48 per cent of the total number of foreigners' visits to Bulgaria in January 2019 or by 4.7 per cent more in comparison with the same month of the previous year.

An increase was registered in the visits of citizens from the United Kingdom by 50.3 per cent, Poland by 32.1 per cent, Romania by 24 .2 per cent, Germany by 2.5 per cent, and etc. At the same time decreased the visits from Austria by 17.9 per cent, Italy by 15.4 per cent, Greece by 5.5 per cent. Foreign arrivals from other European countries decreased by 1.3 per cent, as the highest decrease was observed in the visits of citizens of Turkey by 5.2 per cent.

In January 2019, most foreign arrivals were from Greece (103,700), Turkey (98,400), Republic of North Macedonia (67,300), Romania (61,900), Serbia (39,800), the United Kingdom (24,800), Germany (15,700), Ukraine (14,900), Israel (14,600), Italy (11,600). IG/PP
