Interior Minister Buchvarova: Bulgaria Will Support Proposal for Migrant Allocation in EU as Temporary, Not Permanent Measure

Brussels, September 14 (BTA Correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) -
Bulgaria will support the proposal for the distribution of
migrants in the EU but only as a temporary, not a permanent
measure, Deputy Prime Minister Roumyana Buchvarova told
journalists in Brussels. She arrived for an extraordinary
Justice and Home Affairs Council to establish a further course
of action for dealing with the current migration crisis.

Bulgaria does not raise any conditions to support the proposal
of the European Commission for the relocation of 120,000
migrants. The mechanism put forward for the calculation of the
quotas reflects the peculiarities of the individual states and
is aligned with them, Buchvarova said. The major problem lies in
the number which will be allocated according to the logic of
these quotas, she added.

"Now we are talking about 120,000 people and just a few months
ago we were talking about 40,000. If the security level along
the EU external borders is not increased, in just a few more
months we may be talking about many more," she commented.

Several days ago the Bulgarian government expressed its
position: that the most important thing in this situation is to
find solutions for better management of the migration processes
and the resulting crisis. That is why Bulgaria will support a
decision to that end. It is aware that at this stage a perfect
solution - one that meets the requirements of all countries -
could hardly be found. But it is better to have some solution
than none at all. Bulgaria's position will be to try and find
one. If the decision for relocation is accepted, then Bulgaria
will support it. The approach which has been proposed includes
the opportunity for any country which finds itself in a
difficult situation to resort to this right.
