site.bta46 Bulgarian Athletes to Vie for Olympic Glory in Paris
Boxer Stanimira Petrova and swimmer Lyubomir Epitropov have been named as Bulgaria’s joint flag bearers for the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics on Friday, July 26. For 19 days, more than 10,000 athletes from 206 nations will compete in 32 different sports in the world's foremost sports competition.
Since the creation of the modern Olympics in 1896, Bulgaria has won a total of 224 medals, including 54 gold medals, 88 silver medals and 82 bronze medals. This ranks the country 21st in the all-time Olympic Games medal table.
The Bulgarian delegation at the 2024 Summer Olympics consists of 115 people, including athletes, coaches, medical staff and officials. BOC President Stefka Kostadinova is the head of the delegation. A total of 46 Bulgarian athletes claimed 41 Olympic quotas, including Petrova and Epitropov. The 25-year-old swimmer will compete in the men's 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke events while two-time European champion Petrova will participate in the 54 kg event in the women’s boxing tournament.
In Paris, Bulgaria will be represented by athletes in 16 sports – rhythmic gymnastics (7 athletes), athletics (5 athletes), boxing (5 athletes), wrestling (5 athletes), swimming (4 athletes), badminton (3 athletes), weightlifting (3 ahtletes), rowing (2 athletes), judo (2 athletes), artistic gymnastics (2 athletes), shooting (2 athletes), canoe sprint (1 athlete), modern pentathlon (1 athlete), tennis (1 athlete), fencing (1 athlete), and taekwondo (1 athlete).
The Bulgarian delegation also includes a team of 40 coaches, 13 medical professionals and 9 officials.
The Paris 2024 Olympics will take place between July 26 and August 11.
