Education Minister Presents to EU Research Commissioner Bulgaria's Updated Research Strategy

Brussels/Sofia, May 27 (BTA) - Deputy Prime Minister and Education and Science Minister Meglena Kuneva presented an updated national strategy on research to the EU Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Carlos Moedas. The strategy will be officially presented next week, said the Education and Science Ministry Friday.

Kuneva explained that the strategy reflects the recommendations in a European Commission report and the Policy Support Facility prepared last year. It is in keeping with the priorities of the European Research Area: reforming the research system, strengthening human resources, opening up science and transfer of knowledge.

Moedas expressed support for the strategy and said that the partnership between Bulgaria and the European Commission will continue after its adoption so as to make sure the mapped out measures are carried through and ensure the successful start of the EU-supported operational programme for science.

Kuneva is in Brussels for a Competitiveness Council which is expected to discuss Friday the challenges for the European Research Area and the establishment of a European Innovation Council.
