Ombudsman Manolova Donates Food Vouchers to Bobov Dol Miners
Kyustendil, Southwestern Bulgaria, October 27 (BTA) - Bulgarian Ombudsman Maya Manolova donated food vouchers, worth 153,560 leva, to the miners from the Bobov Dol mines on Thursday.
"I am here today to fulfil my commitment to the miners and their families and donate the remaining food vouchers from the Easter for Everyone campaign. The 7,678 vouchers are worth 153,560 leva," said Manolova ahead of her meeting with representatives of the Bobov Dol mines.
Each miner will get four food vouchers worth 80 leva which can be used at 5,000 outlets across the country.
The decision to donate the vouchers has been taken by the campaign's public council.
Manolova said that she continues to follow the situation at the Bobov Dol mines. According to her, the management and the employer are honouring their commitments and the September wages were paid out on October 25. By the end of the week miners will receive their rescheduled food vouchers for April.
"The situation is calm. The people are not worried about what they are going to eat tomorrow. All involved parties and competent authorities have fulfilled their commitments and a working group has been set up at the Energy Ministry to consider coal mining prospects in Bulgaria," said Manolova.
Earlier in October, miners of the Babino mine, part of the Bobov Dol complex, staged a three-day protest underground over unpaid wages and plans to cut pay and benefits.
