site.btaParliament Relieves of Duties Health Insurance Fund Director

Sofia, June 20 (BTA) - Parliament relieved Prof. Kamen Plochev of his duties as director of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) by a vote of 109-72, with 30 abstentions.

Plochev's credentials were terminated early on the grounds of a letter in which he cited ill health as the reason why he had been unable to perform his official duties in the last three months and said this would continue for at least another month.

In his letter to the NHIF Supervisory Board, Plochev asked that the law be applied. Under the Health Insurance Act, the NHIF's director may be released from office when unable to discharge duties for over three months.
