Both journalists and rectors have the same problem - misinformation and the dismissal of science on social networks, which is happening right now, said Alexandrina Hristova, Director of International News at Nova Broadcasting Group Ltd, Bulgaria. She took part in the third panel discussion on "Science and Universities as Appearing in Bulgarian Media", held as part of the 19th World Meeting of Bulgarian Media in the Ukrainian city of Izmail on Friday.

According to Hristova, another problem is that the generation that is currently attending universities does not recognize the traditional media and does not inform themselves "in the way we have informed ourselves," she said, adding that this generation is informed by social media platforms.

"Our job is to promote science. In order to reach many people, these complex scientific advances need to be presented in a simple way, in the language of the audience," Hristova explained, adding that presenting scientific advances in the media is usually done by showing how they will change people's lives.

Universities are the ones that should prepare students practically for what awaits them, not just theoretically. Especially in media studies, she said, stressing the importance of students learning how the media functions. "We have very high hopes for the universities to give us prepared staff," she said.
