site.btaSofia Hosts Forum of International Audit Organization
A forum of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) is held in Sofia, the Bulgarian National Audit Office said on Tuesday. The event began on Tuesday and will continue until November 29. Representatives of more than ten countries from all INTOSAI bodies are taking part. Among the guests is Helga Berger, Member of the European Court of Auditors.
Goritsa Grancharova-Kozhareva, Acting Chair of the Bulgarian National Audit Office, opened the forum.
The Bulgarian National Audit Office has been a member of INTOSAI since 2001. It is the first time the Bulgarian audit institution has hosted a summit of the international organization. It marks the beginning of the implementation of the Strategic Development Plan of the INTOSAI Framework of Professional Pronouncements.
The application of INTOSAI principles, standards and guidelines is a fundamental prerequisite for objectivity in our audit work, which is key to high confidence in the work of supreme audit institutions, Goritsa Grancharova-Kozhareva said at the opening of the forum. She stressed that it is public and auditees' trust in the audit institutions that helps in the acceptance and implementation of their recommendations, and this leads to the most important result of audits - improving the quality of public services and the lives of citizens. In order to be as useful as possible to the public, it is particularly important for the Bulgarian National Audit Office to update its audit methodology in a timely manner and to implement the most effective and proven international practices in the audit process, Grancharova further said.
The forum was also attended by Toma Donchev, Bulgarian member of the Forum for INTOSAI Professional Pronouncements and Director of the Audit Development Directorate at the Bulgarian National Audit Office.
