The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) definitively approved a 1.77% average increase of the prices of electricity for household consumers in Bulgaria for the 12-month period from July 1, 2024, until June 30, 2025, the regulator's press office said on Sunday.

For customers of Electrohold, which distributes electricity to Western Bulgaria, including the capital Sofia, the price will rise by 3.10%. For EVN, which operates in South-Central and Southeastern Bulgaria, the increase will be 1.85%. For customers of Energo Pro, the distributor for North-Central and Northeastern Bulgaria, the price of electricity will fall by 0.49%. The rates include network service prices.

After the changes, the prices of electricity for household consumers in Bulgaria will remain among the lowest in Europe. The average increase of 1.77% is the lowest one approved by EWRC in 10 years. In 2023 it was 4.7%, and in 2022 it stood at 4.3%. The rate of 1.77% is considerably lower than the inflation level of the last one-year period and the inflation forecast for the next one-year period, the regulator said.

The decision follows public consultations held on June 13, which all stakeholders were invited to. The decision is published on the EWRC website.
