The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) declared an outbreak of Avian Influenza A (influenza) in the environs of Haskovo.
The causative agent of the disease was detected on April 10 in a poultry laying hen breeding facility where more than 25,000 birds are kept.
A 3-kilometre protection zone and a 10-kilometre surveillance zone have been established around the affected breeding site.
To contain the disease and prevent its spread, action will be taken to humanely cull diseased and contact birds on the site.
