Bulgarian central bank Governor Dimitar Radev has submitted the nomination of Kristalina Georgieva for a second term as IMF Managing Director, the Bulgarian National Bank said Thursday.

Radev wrote in a statement published on the central bank website: "In my capacity as the Governor of the IMF for Bulgaria, I have submitted the nomination of Kristalina Georgieva to continue to serve as Managing Director of the IMF for a second term. Ms Georgieva has successfully led the institution during the recent challenging and turbulent years and has gained the trust and respect of the Fund’s broader membership. As announced by Minister Van Peteghem on behalf of the EU ministers of finance, Ms Georgieva enjoys their unanimous support for a second term. Over the last several days there have also been many other expressions of support beyond the EU, reflecting Ms. Georgieva’s strong leadership and service which has benefitted the IMF’s entire membership."

It transpired on March 8 that Bulgaria was taking steps towards nominating Georgieva for a second stint at the helm of the IMF.
