Speaking to journalists, Agriculture Minister Kiril Vatev said that due to the low commodity prices this year grain producers have demanded compensation to mitigate the effects of the war in Ukraine.

So a meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 22 between the farmers and Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov, Deputy Prime Minister Mariya Gabriel, and Finance Minister Assen Vassilev. Vatev will also participate in the meetings.

According to the minister, a very careful assessment needs to be done of grain producers’ losses as a result of the war in Ukraine and the market situation. Such a task has been assigned to a team of the Agriculture Ministry and on Monday morning the analysis should be ready, Vatev added.

On Thursday, Vatev met with Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Mykola Solski. "We want our producers, who are currently suffering market losses due to Ukraine's dumping prices, to be protected," the Minister said.

He stressed to his Ukrainian counterpart that huge tensions are being created because of the idea of liberalizing trade for all Ukrainian goods.
