The shrinkage of construction in Bulgaria accelerated in November 2023 on an annual basis, to 0.7%, month on month. Quarter-on-quarter construction decreased by 0.4% in September, according to Eurostat data, released on Thursday.
In November 2023 compared with October 2023, seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector decreased by 1.0% in both the euro area and the EU, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In October 2023, production in construction fell by 0.6% in the euro area and by 0.4% in the EU. In November 2023 compared with November 2022, production in construction decreased by 2.2% in the euro area and by 2.1% in the EU.
On an annual basis in November 2023, the decrease in production was 2.9%.
In the euro area in November 2023, compared with November 2022, building construction decreased by 2.4% and civil engineering by 1.0%. In the EU building construction decreased by 2.5%, while civil engineering increased by 0.2%.
Among Member States for which data are available, the largest decreases were recorded in Hungary (-12.8%), Finland (-6.9%) and Czechia (-6.5%). The highest annual increases in production in construction were observed in Romania (+14.4%), Slovenia (+11.6%) and Spain (+9.7%).
