site.btaTax Authorities Orders 600+ Illegal Betting Websites to Stop Operation

In October - December 2023, the tax authorities ordered over 600 betting websites run by companies that are not registered for such business, to stop operating, the National Revenue Agency (NRA) said Wednesday.

These websites have three days from the publishing of the NRA decision, to stop operating.

If they fail to comply, NRA takes the matter to court to obtain court orders for the Internet providers to take down the websites.  

According to Gallup surveys of a couple of years back, the approximate number of gamblers in 6.5-million-strong Bulgaria is 3 million. Some 300,000 of them are regulars, even though 86% of the people have never won anything, the Center for the Study of Democracy reported in 2018.
