site.btaGovernment Approves Financial Support Programme for Transport for Individuals, 300,000 Families to Receive Up to BGN 300

The Government has approved a financial support programme for transport for individuals, the press service of the Council of Ministers said. About 300,000 families with children from vulnerable groups will receive compensation in the amount of up to BGN 300 under the programme.

The funds will be paid by the Agency for Social Assistance on a professional basis to families who, in the period from December 1, 2023 to February 29, 2024, received monthly allowances for raising a child until their completion of secondary education, but over 20 years of age. Eligible families do not need to apply to receive the compensation.

The Government's scheme aims to help households struggling to meet their increased transport costs. The programme was developed by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy and the Ministry of Economy and Industry. It stipulates that the monthly contributions collected in the Electricity System Security Fund on petroleum products produced in Bulgaria from crude oil originating in Russia will be used to compensate users for transport costs in accordance with the terms and conditions determined by decree of the Council of Ministers.

The purpose of the programme is to complement the package of government support measures aimed at families with children in Bulgaria.

Nearly BGN 70 million is the amount of the contribution under Art. 1 of the Act on Compensation of Motor Fuel Consumers' Costs for the month of December 2023, the Ministry of Economy and Industry said.
