Sofia places third in a ranking of the best European weekend destinations in 2024, said Sofia Airport on Friday. The airport cited a ranking based on TripAdvisor reviews about each European capital, which highlights the nightlife and the accommodation costs. Sofia has plenty of exciting places and entertainment opportunities, the airport says.

London tops the ranking, boasting 854 highly ranked bars, clubs and pubs. They are coupled, however, with higher accommodation costs of EUR 116.9 per person, the data show.

Prague places second, which is also full of possibilities for entertainment and culture.

Sofia places third. The Bulgarian capital offers visitors a choice of 112 bars and clubs, rated with four stars and more, and hotels cost on average EUR 41.9 per person for a night.

According to data of Sofia Airport, more than two thirds of the passengers to and from Sofia Airport (69%) travel to and from Schengen countries. As from March 31 they will go faster through the border controls after Bulgaria joins the Schengen area by air and sea.
