Foreign Direct Investments Top BGN 7 Bln in 2023

Innovation and Growth Minister Milena Stoycheva Tuesday cited Bulgarian National Bank data showing that foreign direct investments topped BGN 7 billion in 2023. Her Ministry issued certificates for investment projects worth over BGN 600 million, which are expected to create 2,300-plus jobs.

Investors are interested in new technologies, electromobility, electrical components, software, biotechnology, bioeconomy, microelectronics, mechatronics, logistics and digital transformation in this sector, and transport hubs, Stoycheva said. Culture and the creative industries can be an interesting sector with high value added. The minister said Bulgaria is interested in investors from all over Europe, Asia, Turkiye and the United States.

She recalled that Bulgaria had signed an agreement with Romania on cooperation in digitalization, technology and entrepreneurship. Finland, Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro are next on the list for such agreements.

Stoycheva met with representatives of all of Varna's universities and of the IT industry. The University of Economics hosted the meeting which was initiated by the municipality.
