The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria fell by 0.27% in two weeks to 2.246 points. Before the holiday season the index stood at 2.252 points, the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets reported.

At the beginning of 2023 the food price index was 2.316 points, and around March 10 it reached its spring peak at 2.480 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.

Over the last two weeks the average wholesale price of greenhouse cucumbers rose by 8.5% to BGN 3.84 per kilogramme. The price of greenhouse tomatoes grew by 4.3% to BGN 3.16/kg. Potatoes went down by 0.8% to BGN 1.29/kg.

The average wholesale price of carrots decreased by 5.4% to BGN 1.06/kg. Onions (imported) appreciated by 7.4% to BGN 1.46/kg. Cabbage fell by 2.3% to BGN 0.86/kg. Red peppers rose by 2.9% to BGN 2.46/kg.

The price of imported apples decreased by 8.8% to BGN 1.65/kg. Lemons went down by 9% to BGN 2.01/kg. Bananas went up by 3.2% to BGN 2.89/kg. Tangerines dropped by 10.2% to BGN 2.20/kg. Oranges fell by 7.7% to BGN 2.04/kg.

The average wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk decreased by 0.4% to BGN 11.32/kg. The price of yellow kashkaval cheese of the Vitosha type also fell by 0.4% to BGN 17.01/kg.

Yogurt (with fat content of 3% and over) went up by 0.8% to BGN 1.19 for a cup of 400 grammes. Fresh milk (with fat content of 3%) rose by 0.9% to BGN 2.26 per litre.

Chicken appreciated by 1.4% to BGN 6.74/kg. Eggs (size M) were selling at BGN 0.39 per piece.

Rice went up by 2.5% to BGN 3.27/kg. The price of lentils increased by 1.4% to BGN 4.25/kg. Dry common beans grew by 2.4% to BGN 4.20/kg.

The average wholesale price of sugar remained unchanged at BGN 2.30/kg. Sunflower oil went up by 1.8% to BGN 2.85 per litre. Flour (type 500) rose by 5.4% to BGN 1.37/kg. The price of butter from cow's milk decreased by 2.6% to BGN 2.64 for a pack of 125 grammes.
