Political forces, aiming to push Bulgaria into a crisis because of international factors deliberately made wrong projections and manipulations for a bankruptcy of the state, a gas crisis and galloping inflation upon entering the eurozone, said MP of Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria and financial expert Martin Dimitrov on Bulgarian National Television.

“Everyone who was scaremongering with bankruptcies, riots and debts now looks ridiculous. All this was a big manipulation to create tension. The speculations came from Vazrazhdane and others who spoke of bankruptcy and budget deficits. [The caretaker cabinet appointed by] President Rumen Radev submitted a draft budget with a 6.4% deficit and now the deficit is three times lower. The same forces claimed that without Russian natural gas we would die and that nothing can be done. It turned out that we can do without Russian gas and the current price is comparable to that before the war which was started by Russia,” said Dimitrov.

He disproved the third manipulation for a double increase of inflation upon entering the eurozone, citing Croatia, where a year after the adoption of the euro the inflation rate is comparable to that in Bulgaria. In 2024, Bulgaria has the chance for a 3% growth against projections for a recession in a number of EU countries.

“This will be a good foundation for incomes in Bulgaria to continue to outpace inflation. This is what people want the most. In 2024 for the first time there is a chance for Bulgaria not to be lagging the EU in terms of incomes in the EU,” said Dimitrov.
