The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) is launching staggered protests across the country from Monday over the upcoming adoption of the state budget and the insufficient funds allocated for sustainable wage growth in a number of sectors, as well as or energy security. A rally is scheduled to start at 10 am outside the Parliament building.

From 11, urban public transport workers will rally in central Sofia to protest the low wages. During the rally, the streets will be closed to traffic.

CITUB demands an extra BGN 37 million in the state budget for pay rises in urban transport.

Protest signs will be placed on public transport vehicles, at ticket offices and at employees' workplaces. This is just the first step in the peaceful expression of discontent with the proposed 2024 State Budget Bill.
